world record attempt

On November 13, 2014, Marcel Bregstein made a second attempt to break the Guinness World Record for sabrage, opening champagne bottles with a sabre. An omen of the winter to come, the temperature dropped quickly that evening and by the time Marcel started, there was ice on the table and the bottles were actually freezing.

As champagne gets this close to freezing, its effervescence declines and with it the pressure inside the bottle.

Although Marcel made a valiant attempt, the elements were against him. On the winning side, Marcel raised $5,000 for the Hospice as donors "bought" champagne bottles that he was about to sabre.

Bravo to Marcel for the effort and our whole hearted thanks to the donors who gave generously to support the Hospice while cheering Marcel on.

At the end of the evening, Jean Remy Rapeneau said, "Let's do it next summer, in France!!". So in the summer of 2015, stay tuned, I think that we're going to have a new record!!
